POLIS: a community center (Greek marketplace); a place where a community dialogue occurs, perhaps a sacred ground.

Welcome to the first issue of Polis, an annual on-line literary journal for CVCC students’ writing that also showcases students’ artwork.

The Polis Board advertised for submissions of poetry, fiction, and essays; works were submitted with a cover sheet including the authors’ names but with no names attached to the works. We were pleased to receive 53 submissions.

Each work was then evaluated by at least three Polis board members using criteria established by the board. When debate arose, other board members read the work in question.

The board members spent a great deal of time to launch this literary journal. They were involved with everything from naming the journal to evaluating the entries. Without their hard work and dedication, Polis would not exist.

We hope that Polis will continue to serve as a way to recognize and share the literary and artistic talents of CVCC students. Enjoy the first issue!
