Perfected Imperfections
 by Matthew Craig

It happened that the entities were warned, but they knew not by whom. They did not question it though, any warning given in such a matter and so covertly as this was one to be taken seriously. The idea of not completing their mission struck them as odd, but nonetheless if the message was true, the Creator had ordered them otherwise. Complying wasn’t a choice, it would mean their existence if they didn’t.

Putting into place the so-called natural disasters, eliminating large populations through genocide, all these were orders from the Creator, all which took mere milliseconds in the galactic time of Them. They were to experiment with the beings known to themselves as humans, this They did. Now, though, their experiment must be halted. Another Group needed them, and so They left the earth. In leaving, They, as never done before, had to leave their planet, their abacus of intuitive learning all to itself.

The effect wasn’t felt per se in a way that one human from the next could tell. It was gradual, and subtle in all ways. It was first noticed in retrospect, as the first of the Suns faded, and the Second was lit. Philosophers studied the past and noticed that no longer had natural disasters, or wars, or other phenomena vastly affected the general population. Then, was the absence of the heavenly scientists felt, and it hit with great resonance and depth. If humans had been cared for, for so long unknowingly then why now should they know? What change had occurred to allow this? Moreover a jubilant reaction was had. Since the leaving of the Entities human nature had dictated a most euphoric society, one of peace and learning and understanding unparalleled by that of any previously known people. Walls were demolished, bridges rose from their ashes. Communication became the simple greatest amenity. The lack of greed in a clean world was responsible for world peace. By the age of 6 human years, a child could speak 4 languages and perform complicated calculus problems. All was good, for humans.

Alas, upon the entities return from their mission, which is of no prevalence, they found a world in peril. Peril, of course, to these entities, being much different than that of the human mind. They were supposed to groom these humans for work on another planet. Work that involved not intelligence, but brute strength and durability. Instead their crop had turned to an intellectual group of weak bodied, strong minded, theorists. What is worse, is that their primary directive had failed, and so, according to the Creator’s orders it must be undone. With only two options of undoing, the first, a long process of de-evolving the species of humanity, the second, destruction of their world and therefore the species itself, the Entities had to choose. For beings of such power, the choice was simple.

It happened first in the Mid-East, the crude oil, that hadn’t been tapped for energy since the igniting of the second star and that was slowly replenishing itself, combusted. This initial explosion destroyed but an eighth of the planet, The rest was left to the human’s themselves. As was their nature when interfered with by Them, they soon began to destroy the Earth and each other. The end came soon and all was well for Them.
