Fighter
by Wesselyn CampbellStaring at the bag
Thinking of daily training
Knowing what is about to happen
Can this be the beginning to the end?As I get strapped up
One glove at a time
All my thinking was stopped
By the sound of a bell"Practice time over," he yelled
With a big booming voice
Like thunder clapping in the sky
"This could not be!" I thought.I didn't have time to warm up
Time was slowly winding down
And the moment that we were waiting for
Was approaching like lightening"But sensei," I said,
"I didn't get time to practice my rounds."
"Well young lady," he said,
"The best fighters are prepared whenever called.""What?" I thought
This is the beginning of my end
What is going to happen next?
No one even knew what would take placeAs I got into the ring
All I could think about
Was how I didn't get to practice.
"Oh well" I thought, as I bowed to my opponent. The crowd was going crazy
Screaming "go blue team go!"
As I continuously heard this chant
I couldn't help but to remember my training. As the first punch
From my opponent was thrown
I retaliated with a block and my first attack
The crowd screamed as this happenedWe went on for three rounds
Each round becoming harder
Why did it seem like I was getting tired
When normally I can go five rounds without a problem? As each punch and kick was thrown
I began to get weaker and weaker
I could hear my sisters saying
"Try harder, never give up!"As I heard these lines in my head
I realized that I needed to try harder
I gave the fight all that I could
And ended up winningAs I reminisced on my sensei's words
With each word piercing me like a sword
I realized that he was right when he said,
"The best fighters are prepared whenever called."As I walked out of that tournament
As the victor of our team
I held my head up high
And sighed because it was overNo matter the situation
Never give up!
Always remember that people are there
Cheering you on to victory.no one should ever give up.
