Your Eyes Explode Again
by Dennis Ennis

Life; life flowed across your face like a
Great wave that tidal's across the sea
Your eyes exploded with light more pure,
And beautiful than any earthly
Being has entitlement to know.
Smile; and smile you did with the grandeur
Of a million beaming children's spark.
You flirted with me till I was lost
In trance. You were frightened, by my
Persistent gaze, and I was frightened
By thought of, yet again, the utter
Devastation of my heart. I tried
To please you as you tried to please me,
Though hurt after hurt we blamed ourselves
Until death pounded on the door of
My ignorance, but salvation stood
Watch. Then, electric-blues coursed through my
Brain, delivering me numb. For three,
Or maybe four years subsequently,
I crawled in despondency. Besieged
By what? By my yet nescience of self
Till occasion of deliverance
Fell upon me and I peeled off scab
Of blame as you had done from knowing.
And now we live irrevocably
Immersed in exuberance once known
Only in fairytales. Now I walk
With you proudly aware of our time
And self, mine, yours, and ours. And now,
Your e
yes explode again.
