About Polis Polis: a community center (Greek marketplace); a place where a community dialogue occurs; perhaps a sacred ground; Central Virginia Community College's Literary Journal The Polis Board (2003-2004)
A group of students, working with English Instructor Lana Bowling, created Polis in the spring of 2003. The first issue was published online; this year (2003-2004 academic year), we are excited to have this annual magazine both in print and online. Polis accepts submissions of poetry, fiction, nonfiction (including academic essays), and artwork twice a year. CVCC students submit three copies of their work (no name attached--that information is provided on a cover sheet), and at least three Polis Board Members review each work using criteria established by the original board. When submissions receive contradictory ratings, at least one additional board member reviews the work in question. We would like to thank all of the CVCC students who submitted works to the journal, and we would like to thank the faculty and staff at CVCC who have supported this effort. We hope you enjoy this issue of Polis! For more information about
