A WOMAN
Frances Carolyn McCanless

As I stand in front of you - naked
My soul revealed before you
My secrets written on my face
My shame evident in my eyes
My heart broken into
My mind filled with fear

A child yet an adult -
Not yet grown up emotionally
A middle aged woman -
Old with the torture of pain
A woman robbed of her childhood
- her youth
- her innocence
- her love
- her emotions
- her security
- her trust
A woman burdened with the sin of
- guilt
- shame
- hatred
- anger
A woman robbed of life
Left to find her way -
All alone
Searching
Hoping
Praying
Believing
Knowing
That someday the child will heal
And
The woman will be made whole
