RAIN
Frances Carolyn McCanless

I love rain now but as a child I didn't care so much for it because it was a sign that it was time to come inside. One thing I decided as a mother was not to make my children come in when it rained during the summer months; unless of course it was thundering and lightning. I kept that promise to myself as often as I could and when it would rain I would gather two umbrellas or as one of my sons called them when he was very young - rainbrellas - and dress my twin boys in swimsuits and out they would go for the time of their lives. I would watch from the doorway as they would splash in the rain, run - often falling down in the mud, and sometimes they would just be mesmerized at watching the rain fall.

Rain to me is a time to reflect and meditate on days gone by and days yet to come. To have hope for the future and not let the past darken your outlook.

My sons are both grown now and I think back to their childhood and pray above all things that they choose to focus on the fun that they had as a child and not on the sometimes unhappy incidents that occurred in their lives.

For all of us life is a choice; not only in what we choose to do but in what we think about, what we watch on TV, what we read, what we do with our time, and who we allow to influence us. In all things choose wisely for this is your life and it is your responsibility to make the most of it. Happy journey!
