THE BRIDGES
Frances Carolyn McCanless
The bridges I've crossed over
The steps I've taken
The long and narrow roads
The plans in the making
The days that were lonely
The days that were sad
The days that I couldn't -
Bring myself - to even lift my head
The days of numbness
The days of pain
Are brought to life once again -
Every time I see a child abused
A stray cat in the alley
Every time I see a woman -
deceived by her own lust
Every time a stronger person -
takes from the weak
These are the times my soul cries;
my heart breaks; and I cannot speak
