Love At Home
Jonathan James

You were there the day I left
Trying to hide your fears
With a kiss you sent me off
While choking back tears

You said we must defend Virginia
But worried I might not come home
Off I went, marching with Company I
There you sat, wondering were I’ll roam

A battle won, a battle lost
News would come, fears would loom
What would be the cost
Of the impending doom?

Now I am home, the army defeated
A sad rejoice, a tearful embrace
A country gone, freedom cheated
Your husband alive by God’s dear grace
