Poets
Thomas Turner

Poets are the conscience
of the world they live in.
Some of the greatest poetry
ever written was written
because of the hurt
and tormented heart.

Poets are true warriors –
the most gentle of warriors
to ever exist.
They don’t need swords, knives
or guns to get others
to see their way.

Words are their most
powerful weapons.
They fight the battles they choose
in the most honorable of ways
and they are never
afraid to lose.

They carry the weight of the world
not only upon their shoulders,
but in their hearts and minds as well.
They are sensible and diplomatic.
They are always caring
and can be very sympathetic.

They can move you in all directions
with their written or spoken words.
They can make you laugh.
They can make you cry.
They can create words that
make you just want to die.

They create stories of love and hate –
even stories of man’s questionable fate.
Hopefully, before it becomes too late,
poets can ultimately prove
that the pen is so very truly
mightier than any vicious sword.
