![]() “Focused” is a continuation of my love for portraying the human head and face. The wealth of color to be seen on our faces is intriguing and offers an ever changing challenge. Also, since my Painting One students can use only red, blue, and yellow, with some black and white for mixing purposes when they are painting, I chose to do the same with this head (without any black) to keep me in touch with what they are required to do. |
FEATURED ARTIST 2006-2006 Jim Patterson I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the College of William and Mary and a Master’s Degree in Art from Radford College (in the last graduating class before it became Radford University). I worked in the commercial art field (full-time, part-time, and freelance) for 18 years and have taught art at CVCC since fall of 1983, first as an adjunct and now full-time. I teach painting, drawing, art history, and an introduction to computer graphics. My artwork has been a way for me to explore the visible world and my own inner world. It has also been a starting point for other areas of learning (such as anatomy and history) and is a great reason to travel at home and abroad. |
![]() “Oneida Lake” was inspired by a cloudy morning at Oneida Lake, just north of Syracuse, NY. Hobie cat sailing and racing are big sports there and so provided a physical subject, but the real subject is the color in the clouds and on the lake’s surface.
