Happiness
Frances McCanless

Their laughter permeates my soul and echoes -
of times gone by never to come again
of days in the sunshine with a friend
of birds singing and the onset of spring
of days at the beach and playing in the rain
of sitting on the front porch and watching cars go by
of watching a kite fly high in the sky
of listing to children playing in the park
of watching the sun go down and the onset of dark
of listening to a newborn baby cry
of watching a balloon disappear in the sky
of seeing an old couple holding hands
of building castles in the sand
of finding the first flower of spring
of listening to the thunder - and - the rain
of climbing a mountain and reaching the top
of knowing that love will never stop
