Fond and fun memories of Birthdays, Holidays and Special Occasions;
Sunday Gatherings at the family farm;
With the best food you ever ate, and them holding you in their arms.
Roasting marshmallows and fishing at the old family pond;
Swimming and laughing from dusk to dawn.
How odd it was on a weekday when we went to the farm
And they told us she was gone;
We still went on Sundays but nothing was ever the same;
My parents and I watched as he withered away
Because of that awful and terrible day;
Then we decided to bring him home so he would not be all alone
We included him in everything to make him feel a part
And to always let him know he was loved and always in our heart
We still sat on the swing and talked of old times
He talked of his youth and when he was in his prime
When he talked of her, he always had a smile that would light up the sky
Then I noticed one day that he lost that twinkle in his eyes
I felt there was nothing I could do but weep and sigh
Mom and Dad tried everything they could do,
However, as the days went on his comments became few.
It was almost as if he was hollow inside
And a man with body but no spirit alive
Dinners became less and laughs became few
We knew in this moment we were lost and confused
At this point, we knew there was not a lot we could do
My mother the young girl that loved him so much
Now the grown woman that felt so out of touch
His eyes were empty and his stories were gone
So on the next day with inspiration and prayer
She knew she could find him just the right care
Phone call after phone call she never gave into despair
Then one day someone answered our prayers
The appointment was made and on the journey we went
It seemed like forever that day we spent
Test after test and weeks went by
Then my mother came to us and broke down inside
Living in a home with people that held him dear
I felt hopeless and could only shed a tear
We did everything we could but nothing seemed to help
We went to visit every week, as we should
And met many new faces and none he knew
How hard it was to see someone once so strong
Now lost inside and all alone
How vague memories seem some days but I hold him close in my heart always.With undying love your grandson.
