Cracked Glass
By Margaret “Marty” Dove

I’m here
Can’t you see me?
Plain as the nose on your face
Big as a house
Loud as a train
Still…
In your mind I take no space
I’m here
Right in front
With a sly wink and a grin
Under the jokes the songs the laughs,
You’d never guess the pain I’m in
I’m here
But I’m nowhere
To you I do not exist
Yours is a charm
That
Like all I’ll never have
I just cannot resist
I stand in your path
You look thru me like glass
Am I nothing but a dirty window pane?
I’m broken and splintered and loose ‘round the sash
In a house left abandoned once again
I see you
I smile
I whisper your name.
Just wish you’d whisper it to me.
Just realize I’m here alive in the flesh
And join this dream I have…
This perfect future fantasy
I know it’s not real.
That’s why I’ll save it for my sleep.
For in the end, I’m all me ever has
I’ll settle like I always do for you to see thru me
Like that dirty cracked glass
