A Whisper So Loud
Leah Ouimet

There was the sound of a million voices,
Each calling out my name.
To see if I will listen,
And follow what they say.
It is a quiet noise when all is asleep,
And all that is left is me.
I wander around and try to find my purpose,
But constantly fall,
When they whisper so loudly in my ear,
That no one can hear.
I slip away in the crowds,
So nobody will notice,
The tears that fill my eyes.
Because behind the bars,
And all the scars,
There's more to me than what you see.
For if you went deeper in the soul,
You'd find something that had always been there,
But all you saw was the appearance I would give.
A person that depended on nobody else but myself,
Until I found someone that would capture my heart,
Before I would fall away once more.
That would hold me tight,
So I wouldn't slip away.
And live a life,
Always wandering in the dark,
To find my way,
But still be lost.
So I stand here,
Not ashamed of the person who was beneath.
With an open heart,
To accept the ones,
Who had broken me apart.
To remind me of the life I lived,
And of the road I now take.
To lead me on my way,
To an everlasting day.
