Submissions

Polis, CVCC’s Journal of Literature and Art, accepts submissions from students, staff, and faculty twice a year (once in the fall, and once in the spring) for its annual publication. Submissions of poetry, short stories, academic essays, and artwork are accepted.

When submitting written works, no name should be attached to the work. Instead, the writer should include a separate cover sheet that includes his/her name, address, telephone number, email address, and title(s) of work(s). Submissions made via email should be in the form of a Microsoft Word attachment. There is no limitation in terms of length or number of submissions.

Art submissions are accepted digitally and can include photographs of art or digital art itself. Art can be submitted as “gif” or “jpg” files; each piece should be no more than 600 pixels in width. Artists should also provide a cover sheet that includes contact information.

Polis advisor and English Instructor Lana Vélez, who does not evaluate submissions, maintains the list of writers’ and artists’ contact information. This process allows Polis board members to evaluate submissions without knowing who created the works. (For more information about the evaluation process, click the “Judging Process and Criteria” link.)

Students, staff, and faculty may submit via email: polis@cvcc.vccs.edu. During advertised submission periods, there is also a submission box located outside Lana Vélez’s office, Amherst 2109C.
